All-Purpose Cleaning Spray
Donβt toss those lemon peels! Citrus peels can be used to make a powerful and fresh-smelling all-purpose cleaner. We made this at our Spring Equinox event with the intent of doing a little bit of spring cleaning in our homes.
What you need:
fresh citrus peels (we used lemon, but orange peels are great as well!)
white vinegar
optional: fresh herbs of choice
mason jar
You can save your peels throughout the week in the fridge, or if you need to make a batch, peel a bunch of lemons and juice them, and set the juice aside in a jar for use in the coming weeks.
Fill a mason jar about ΒΎ of the way with your peels. You can also add fresh herbs if youβd like - we used thyme, rosemary, lemon balm, mint, and sage from our gardens.
Pour the vinegar into the mason jar, covering the contents. Secure the lid and store the jar in a cool, dark location for 2-4 weeks. During this time, the natural oils from the citrus and herbs will infuse the vinegar. It will also take on a yellowish-orange color.
Thanks to the acetic acid in vinegar, and an ingredient in citrus called d-limonene which works as a natural solvent, this all-natural cleaning solution is not only sustainable, but it actually works!
When itβs ready, strain the liquid into a clean jar, which can be stored at room temperature for about two months, or in the fridge for up to six months.
When youβre ready to use, fill a spray bottle halfway with the cleaning solution and fill the rest of the way with water.
